Can your Android phone or tablet record and transcribe a meeting?

SUMMARY SNIPPET

  • Yes: recent Android phones and tablets can record and transcribe a meeting with a built-in app, using Recorder on Google Pixel or Voice Recorder with Galaxy AI on Samsung Galaxy devices, and both can summarise the transcript on supported models.
  • The limits show up in business use: live transcription on Pixel covers eight languages and Samsung's Transcript assist about twenty, neither app lists Estonian, Latvian or Lithuanian for transcription, Pixel's speaker labels work only in US English, and Pixel's summaries cover seven languages.
  • For a salesperson at a trade fair, the bigger gap is what happens after each conversation, because a built-in app gives you a transcript and a summary per recording, while a meeting assistant such as Digiotouch AI adds action items with owners, more than 130 languages and a push into your CRM.
  • Whatever you use, ask before you record a conversation at your stand: Google's and Samsung's help pages describe an audio notice when you record a phone call, but none for the recorder apps.

Luca is an account executive at a software company in Milan, working his company's stand at a three-day trade fair in Barcelona. Between demos he talks to prospects, a possible reseller and two investors, in Italian, Spanish and English, and once in Finnish through a colleague. He records the longer conversations on his Samsung Galaxy phone and keeps a Galaxy tablet on the stand for demos. By the second evening he has twenty recordings, a Finnish one with no transcript, and no idea which visitor asked for a quote by Friday.

Why isn't Android's built-in recording enough for trade-fair follow-up?

Android phones record well, but what you get depends on the brand, the model and the language. On Google Pixel, Google's Recorder help lists eight languages for real-time transcription on Pixel 6 and later, and limits summaries to Pixel 8 and later, seven languages, and recordings from 5 minutes up to 1 hour of speech. Speaker labels, which tell you who said what, need a Pixel 6 or later and work only in US English.

On Samsung, Galaxy AI in the Voice Recorder app is available on select phones and tablets running One UI 6.1 or later, and Samsung notes that certain languages may not be supported. For a sales team that meets visitors from across Europe at one stand, those limits decide whether a recording turns into a follow-up or sits unread on the phone.

How do you record and transcribe a meeting on an Android phone or tablet?

On a Google Pixel phone or Pixel Tablet, open the Recorder app and tap Record; Recorder keeps recording when the screen goes to sleep, and a single recording can last up to 18 hours. Tap Transcript to see the text, and on Pixel 8 and later tap Summarize on a saved recording to get a summary. From there you can share the transcript to Google Docs or as a text file.

On a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, record in the Voice Recorder app and tap Save, then open the recording, tap the Transcript assist icon and tap Transcribe. Samsung's guide shows how to translate the transcript, tap Summarize for a summary, add the text to Samsung Notes, or share it as a voice or text file. On other Android phones, Google's Live Transcribe shows speech as text in real time, but it is an accessibility tool: if you turn on transcription history, it is kept for up to three days and then deleted.

How Digiotouch AI handles this: The Digiotouch AI mobile app for Android (phone and tablet) is designed for in-person meetings: it records the conversation on your device and turns it into a meeting page with a summary, action items and key topics, with speakers labelled in the transcript. For the wider picture, see why AI meeting tools struggle with in-person meetings.

Which languages can an Android phone transcribe?

It depends on the app and the moment. Pixel's Recorder transcribes live in eight languages on Pixel 6 and later: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Hindi, Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. After the meeting, Transcribe again offers around 35 languages, including Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Dutch and Czech, although Google notes that this may process the audio on its servers.

Samsung lists about twenty languages for Transcript assist; its UK guide and its call transcription guide include Polish, Swedish, Dutch, Romanian and Turkish alongside the major European and Asian languages. Neither Pixel's Recorder nor Samsung's Transcript assist lists Estonian, Latvian or Lithuanian, and Samsung's transcription lists do not include Finnish, Danish or Norwegian. At an international fair, that is often the deciding limit.

How Digiotouch AI handles this: Digiotouch AI transcribes more than 130 languages, including Estonian, Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. It detects when a conversation switches language and keeps transcribing, shows each passage in the language it was spoken, and can translate the summary into any supported language.

Can an Android phone record phone and video calls?

Phone calls, often yes. Google's Phone app can record calls on Pixel 6 and later with Android 14, and on other phones with Android 9 and later, in countries where call recording is supported; Google says it is widely available but not everywhere, and in February 2026 Android Authority reported it rolling out to Pixel phones in Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Both people are notified when recording starts, recordings stay on the device, and you cannot record a conference call. Automatic transcripts and summaries through Call Notes need a Pixel 9 or later (not the Pixel A series) and work only in Australia, Canada, Ireland, the UK and the US in English, in Japan in Japanese, and on Pixel 10 phones in India in Hindi and English.

Samsung's US guide says its Phone app records calls on Galaxy phones with One UI 7 or later, and that call transcripts and summaries need a Samsung account and an internet connection, are not available on some Galaxy A models, and may not be supported in every region. Video calls in Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or Webex are a different matter: none of these phone features records them.

How Digiotouch AI handles this: For online meetings, use a tool built for them. The Digiotouch AI desktop app for Windows and Mac records online meetings from your own device, and the web app records a browser tab, so you get the same summary and action items whether a conversation happened at your stand or on screen. To choose, see Desktop, mobile or web: which Digiotouch AI app should you start with?

What does a trade-fair conversation need beyond a transcript?

Who, what and when, ready for your CRM the same evening. After a conversation at your stand you need the visitor's name and company, what they were interested in, what you promised, and the next step with a date. A transcript per recording, plus a summary on supported models, still leaves you to find those details in twenty recordings and type them into your CRM.

A habit that works with any app: straight after each conversation, record a 30-second note in your own voice with the name, company, interest and next step. It needs no one else's consent and is quick to process. The cost of skipping follow-up is real; see what manual meeting follow-ups cost a sales pipeline.

How Digiotouch AI handles this: Each Digiotouch AI meeting page includes a summary, action items with owners and chapters by topic, and every section can be edited before you share it. Meeting content can be pushed to Pipedrive or Scoro, action items to Asana, monday.com, Trello, Jira or ClickUp, and a PDF export works for the visitor you are following up with.

Do you need permission to record conversations at your stand?

Yes. Google's Recorder help says to get permission from others before recording them, and Google's Phone app and, according to Samsung's US guide, Samsung's Phone app play a notice when you record a phone call. The help pages for Recorder and Voice Recorder describe no such notice for recordings made in the room, so at a stand it is up to you to ask.

Say what you are recording and why before you start, and stop if anyone objects; a busy hall is still a place where people expect to choose. Google also notes that the voice models behind speaker labels may be considered biometric data in some countries. Rules differ between countries and between event venues, so check the ones that apply to you; this is general guidance, not legal advice.

How Digiotouch AI handles this: Digiotouch AI leaves consent with you, as any recording tool should. What it adds is control over the data afterwards: EU users' data is stored in the EU by default, Digiotouch AI does not train AI models on your meeting content, and deleting a recording removes the stored media, not just the entry in your list.

Pixel Recorder, Samsung Voice Recorder or a meeting assistant?

The table compares the built-in apps on Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices with a meeting assistant. Where a built-in app is the simpler choice, the table says so.

Key takeaways

  • Built in, by brand: Pixel Recorder and Samsung Voice Recorder both record, transcribe and summarise on supported models.
  • Language gaps: neither app transcribes Estonian, Latvian or Lithuanian, and Pixel summaries cover seven languages.
  • Speaker labels are limited: on Pixel they work only in US English.
  • Ask at your stand: the recorder apps describe no recording notice, so tell visitors first.
  • Follow-up is the real job: owners, next steps and CRM entries are where a meeting assistant helps.

Next step

If you work a stand at trade fairs, try the Digiotouch AI mobile app at your next event and compare its summaries and action items with what your phone gives you. Ask each visitor before you record.

Yes, on many models. Google Pixel phones transcribe recordings in the Recorder app, and Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets with One UI 6.1 or later can transcribe recordings in Voice Recorder with Galaxy AI. Check the transcript before relying on it, especially names and numbers.

On Pixel, Recorder summaries need a Pixel 8 or later and work in seven languages, for recordings from 5 minutes up to 1 hour of speech. On Samsung, Galaxy AI can summarise a transcribed recording in Voice Recorder on supported models when you are signed in to a Samsung account.

Not with the built-in recorder apps: neither Pixel's Recorder nor Samsung's Transcript assist lists Estonian for transcription. Pixel's Recorder can transcribe Finnish when you use Transcribe again after recording, but Samsung's transcription lists do not include Finnish. Digiotouch AI transcribes more than 130 languages, including Estonian and Finnish.

On Pixel 6 and later, Recorder's speaker labels work only in US English and label voices as Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on, which you can rename. Samsung's UK guide says Transcript assist includes speaker recognition. Either way, asking people to say their name at the start of a conversation helps any transcript.

Often, yes. Google's Phone app supports call recording in many countries, including, according to reports from February 2026, Germany, France, Italy and Spain, and Samsung's US guide says its Phone app records calls on Galaxy phones with One UI 7 or later where the region allows it. With Google's Phone app, both people are notified when recording starts, and automatic call transcripts and summaries are more limited by country and language.

Samsung says basic Galaxy AI features provided by Samsung are free, and lists them under Advanced intelligence in its terms. Enhanced Samsung AI features and third-party AI features may be subject to fees.

Yes, if the file is in a supported format. Digiotouch AI processes uploaded MP3, MP4, WAV and WebM files the same way as a live recording, and the meeting page is ready within minutes.

Digiotouch AI has a Free plan that needs no payment details, and summaries and action items are included on every plan. The full transcript starts on the Essential plan. Current prices and limits are on digiotouch.ai/en/pricing.
